Sounds like he could be somewhat ‘spooked.’
Been there. For a couple years. Obviously much different at his level of competition. Mine was just for fun and I still took 2 years off. If your mind isn't all there, it can be dangerous, and thus smart to recognize this ‘throttle back’ as the article mentions.
